Heaven’s Command, An Imperial Progress

ABOUT

This is the first voluem of Jan Morris’s brillian and superbly written triptych depicting the rise and decline of the Birith Empire, in which the author describes the rise of the Empire unitl its apogee in 1897.

The three volumes - ‘a vast panoram of history, glorious, savage, sad and painful’ - are intended as an impressionistic evocation of a great historical movement. Graced by the hand of a chronicler and interpreter whose eye for detail and ear for ancedote are combined with a formidable knowledge, they encapsulate for the reader all the poetry and panache of that glittering adventure.
